Orbit International School – Observing Xylem Tubes

Students took part in an engaging science activity, Observing Xylem Tubes, to explore how water moves through plants. Lettuce leaves were placed in water mixed with food coloring, allowing students to observe the movement of the colored water through the xylem tubes and identify the pathways responsible for water transport.

This hands-on investigation enhanced students’ understanding of plant structure and function while developing their observation and scientific inquiry skills. The activity provided a clear and practical demonstration of how plants transport water and nutrients to support growth and survival.
