Potato Hydroponics Activity

The Orbit International School Grade 5 Girls’ Section successfully completed their Potato Hydroponics activity, exploring how plants can grow without soil. Using a potato supported by sticks over a cup of water, the students created their own simple hydroponic setup. Over time, they carefully observed how the potato absorbed water and began to grow.

After 5 weeks of observation and care, the results were clearly visible—healthy sprouts and leaves had developed, showing that the plant was able to grow using only water as its main source of nutrients. As seen in the activity, the students actively monitored the changes, handled their setups with care, and stayed engaged throughout the process.

This hands-on experiment helped them understand plant growth, the concept of hydroponics, and the importance of consistency and responsibility in scientific work. It also allowed them to witness real-life results of their patience and effort, making learning both meaningful and exciting
