The Statue of Liberty is made of copper, and when it was first built, it had the same color as a penny. Over time, exposure to the weather caused a green layer, known as patina, to form on its surface. After reading the story "Why is the Statue of Liberty Green?", grade 3 students conducted an experiment to change the color of pennies, transforming them to match the Statue of Liberty's green patina.
