The Rocket Catastrophe Grade 11

At AHISK, grade 11-IB integrated three different subjects: English, Physics, and Chemistry in their morning assembly dated October 27, 2022. They focused on a real-life incident from 1988 in which NASA lost a spacecraft because "Standard Unit Measurements" were not employed. The primary objectives of the mission were to build a stable orbiter that can be used to determine the distribution of water on Mars, monitor daily weather and temperatures, and showcase evidence of past climate change. If the scientists had collaborated, all of this might have been prevented. This operation failed due to a difference in units that could have been fixed with basic communication. Students role-played this situation in order to recreate it.

Through the role-play, the learner profile's characteristics were demonstrated.

The students were taught the value of communicating, researching, being open-minded, and being inquirers through this play in order to successfully collaborate in any team and acquire the skills of the IB Learner profile, which are essential not only at work but also in our daily lives.
