OIS-MUN'17

On February 18th Orbit international school held its first MUN. The theme of the MUN was Human Rights bringing to light the injustice faced by many across the world. There were six committees; UNHRC, UNSC,ECOSOC, ECOFIN, CRISIS and SOCHUM. The following were the topics for the committees ECOFIN Topic A: Globalization Topic B: Economic Sanctions ECOSOC Topic A: Regulating refugee flows: international and national financial support. Topic B: Fostering sustainable development practices through gender equality and the empowerment of women. SOCHUM Topic A: Children rights. Topic B: Protection of worker’s rights in developing countries. UNHRC Topic A: Modern Slavery and Labour rights (including child labour and child abuse) Topic B : Sexism in picking majors UNSC Topic A: the question of reallocation of Syrian Refugees Topic B: Threats to International peace and security caused by Terrorist CRISIS TOPIC A: implementation of human rights in conjunction with treatment of refugees regarding the summit The delegates in each committee voted on the topic of discussion and proceeded towards discussing the resolutions. Where as in Crisis one topic was debated between the leaders. Al Hussan khobar, jubail international school, dunes international, Asia international, Majd international school and Saad national school participated in OISMUN'17. The Secretary General Areej Juma and deputy Secretary General Merna al nosiry keenly observed all the committees and ensured the use of MUN procedures. Under the guidance of MUN directors Mrs Heba Abdul Rahman and Ms Khulood Osmani the awards for best position paper, best delegate and honorable mention in each committee. In the closing ceremony all the winners OF OISMUN17 including best chairs were announced by Mrs Kausar Owais and presented with awards. The event was covered by the head of press teams Jana Wayel and Lujane Al Khalifa and closely administered by Anushay ansari. The purpose of MUN was to help students be aware of the current affairs and help prepare them for a better future while instilling leadership skills. The more people know about their rights, and the rights of others in society, the better equipped they are to protect them."
